Paula Torres, 44

Paula Torres, a 44-year-old Latina, was strangled and died Friday, Jan. 1, in the 1600 block of East 108th Street in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.

The bodies of Torres and her husband Jose Torres, 44, were found by their daughter shortly after 1 p.m., according to coroner 's investigator Brian Elias and the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities initially reported Paula Torres was shot to death, but her cause of death is listed by the coroner as strangulation.

The daughter had arrived at the home and dialed 911 after discovering the bodies.

“She said her dad had shot her mother, then himself,” said LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined, authorities said.
