Walter Todd Robertson, a 66-year-old Black male, died Friday, Jan. 8, after being strangled near 802 E. Jefferson Blvd. in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Florinda Velasquez-Hernandez, a 64-year-old Latina, was found dead Feb. 4 after she had been strangled near the 3300 block of Maxson Road in El Monte, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
A person called authorities around 10:25 a.m. to report a man pushing a large blue plastic container out of a trailer to a dumpster, said Los Angeles Sheriff's Det. Louie Aguilera.
Officers arrived and began speaking to the witness, then began looking for the large plastic container, Aguilera said.
Officers found Velasquez-Hernandez inside the dumpster stuffed in a container. An autopsy determined that she had been strangled, according to coroner's records.
David Stanley Lemus-Orellana, a 22-year-old Latino, was charged with murder Feb. 6, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Kelly Ann Hackett, a 41-year-old white woman, was found dead Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, in the 1700 block of Orchid Avenue in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Shortly after 8 p.m., officers were called to an apartment after Hackett's roommate came home and found her unresponsive, said Los Angeles Police Det. Sean Kinchla.
Coroner's records show that Hackett died from strangulation and suffocation.
Ty Jordan Pittman, a 22-year-old black man, has been charged with murder, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
Police said that Pittman, a transient, was an acquaintance of Hackett's.

Cecilia Meza, a 41-year-old Latina, was pronounced dead on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the 800 block of West Colorado Boulevard in Monrovia, according to Los Angeles County authorities.
Meza was found in her upstairs apartment along with her 17-year-old daughter, Kelsey Meza, who was also dead, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred.
The mother’s boyfriend, Nimrod Perez Guerrero, 33, also lived in the apartment and is now wanted as a suspect in the double slaying, Alfred said.
The three lived across the street from Monrovia High School, where Kelsey was a senior. Tearful students gathered outside the apartment on Wednesday afternoon as investigators worked at the scene.
“There were lots of very upset children outside,” Alfred said. “She was liked by plenty of people.”

Freddie Mae Brandon, a 78-year-old black woman, was found dead Friday, March 30, in the 5900 block of West Boulevard in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4 p.m., police from the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Division responded to a call of cardiac arrest at an apartment and found Brandon dead inside a bedroom, said LAPD Det. Chris Barling.
Brandon had suffered from blunt force trauma, police said. Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:36 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Brandon’s daughter, Mia Brandon, told The Times that her mother had lived in the ground-floor apartment for 22 years and knew residents in the area and the customers at the liquor store next door.
A screen grate on the back door appeared to have been cut, Mia Brandon said, and a dresser had been knocked over. Possessions were strewn about.

Jacob Dean Masters, a 30-year-old white male, died Thursday, Nov. 2, after being strangled near 4211 S. Avalon Blvd. in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Yizhu Mu, a 36-year-old Asian woman, was found dead Friday, Sept. 29, in the 16900 block of Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators.
Mu had a San Gabriel address, according to Lt. Derrick Alfred, but she had been staying at the Excelsior Hotel, also known as the Artesia Inn and Suites, for at least a week.
A hotel maid discovered Mu’s body about 10:50 a.m. on the bed in the room, officials said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11 a.m., Alfred said.
Early reports indicated that Mu had been strangled, but investigators put a security hold on her autopsy results so an exact cause of death won’t be available until the investigation is finished, Alfred said.
“It’s definitely a homicide,” the lieutenant said. “The signs of trauma lead us to believe it wasn’t a natural death.”
