Pedro Aguilar, 53

Pedro Aguilar, a 53-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Sept. 29, after he was shot in the 100 block of South Pecan Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Sept. 24 about 4:25 a.m., Aguilar got into an argument in the frontyard of a home with another person, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez. The other person pulled out a gun and shot Aguilar, Ramirez said.

Aguilar was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead five days later, on Sept. 29, at 9:17 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Jose Torres, a 22-year-old Latino, was arrested on suspicion of murder Oct. 19 and charged two days later with one count of murder and two counts of carrying an unregistered loaded handgun, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

On Nov. 17, Torres pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to online records. Torres is due back in court Jan. 20.
