A story for every victim

Ricardo Zetino, 31

Ricardo Zetino, a 31-year-old white man, was shot and killed Saturday, Jan. 25, in the 5800 block of Fulton Avenue in Valley Glen, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., Zetino was discovered by Los Angeles police officers outside of a vehicle in the parking lot of L.A. Valley College with multiple gunshot wounds.

Zetino was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. An autopsy showed that Zetino died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a drug deal "ripoff" and the setting of the college parking lot was a random meeting spot. Classes and campus activities were not in session when the shooting occurred.

Raheen Ahab Taylor, a 31-year-old black man, and Derrick Phillip Wilson, a 25-year-old black man, were arrested on suspicion of murder one day after the shooting, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

Wilson and Taylor have each been charged with one count of murder with a special circumstances allegation of murder during the course of a robbery, according to a news release [PDF] from the L.A. County district attorney’s office.

The men have also been charged with three counts of second-degree robbery with special allegations that they intentionally discharged a handgun.

Wilson and Taylor are being held without bail. Prosecutors will decide whether to seek the death penalty at a later time.
