Richard Antonio Cabrales, 20

Richard Cabrales, a 20-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a Los Angeles police officer in the 3800 block of East 6th Street in East Los Angeles on Friday, June 5, according to authorities.

LAPD officers had gone to the location to investigate Cabrales, who was on parole, for a possible parole violation.

“Officers went on a parole search and an individual walked out of a room with a gun and shots were fired,” said Los Angeles Police Officer April Harding. The shooting took place about 8:20 a.m.

A weapon was recovered from the scene, police said.

First of all let me start this in a positive note. Richard passed away being the love of my life. we were engaged for two years! and No One knew him like i did. There was a lot more to him, he was not just some gang member. Richard was a Very smart person. i want him to know that he is still loved by me. it took me 4 years just to go see his grave. He had no flashing tattoos. No matter what he was the Most Loyal person i have ever met. would give you the honest truth. i will for ever have all those sweet memories and cherish our moments. i got to talk to him the night before and was excited about his 21st bday! he wanted to see me and was telling me how hes becoming a Hard Working Man!!! Not a Criminal!! May you rest in paradise my sweet love. i will never forget you<3

I just happen to come across this site and found some of the names on here familiar. I met Richard a few years back while he was detained in a juvenile camp. I worked with this young man for several months. I recall him as a helpful, respectful and enthusiastic kid. He was 18 and he spoke about his goals and dreams for the future. Although he was well aware of the dangerous environment he would be returning to, he had hope. Without me disclosing to much of what he confided in me, he came from a broken home and had little family support. Its sad for me to hear this news he was a charismatic young man. For those who have negative comments to say about this young man it is a social problem. He was a kid who like many from around this area fall through the cracks. As a community we need to help these young men reach their potential. We send them back to the same environment with no way out, its difficult for them. We expect them to thrive when there is no help for them or support from the community. These are children who are getting involved in this lifestyle. This is a community who fears the police. There is much to understand before you generalize the youth in from this community. I'm deeply sorry this was the outcome to his young life. I hope those who are criticizing his behavior or lifestyle have the same attitude to stand up and do something meaningful in the community to promote change,education,jobs,safety and help our kids instead of sitting back and typing, take some action. Play a positive role,it might change YOUR life. God bless

this message is for EASTLOSCITIZEN and for who ever else wants to act like you knew whats really going on,first of all if you had seen "mr. cabrales" with his shirt off he had no tatoos stating MARAVILLA on his body. people that live on his block know that and also know hardly ever did he walk around displaying maravilla there was no need to. most residents on that block have been living there for awhile so everyone knows where everyones from or who they may or may not associate with. he wasnt on that page ,yes he was a gangmember but at the time of his murder he was currently working, and looking forward to his 21st birthday. a 21st birthday he didnt get to see because he was shot by cops 6 days before his birthday, his 21st birthday was held at a mortuary. so for all that come across this story before you make false comments do your homework, thers too many storys just like his google it if u need. in the sub city of east los angeles ive lost count of how many police involved murders happened in those few months surrounding his murder. scratch the surface you will be surprised what you find.
