Ronald Edward Koonce, 29

Ronald Edward Koonce, a 29-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, June 2, in the 8100 block of South Avalon Boulevard in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 5:35 p.m., Koonce was standing in front of 3 Star Market & Liquor with other people when a sedan driving south on South Avalon Boulevard approached and a person inside began shooting at the group, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Koonce was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The next day, Lekwan Roberson, a 25-year-old black man, was arrested on suspicion of murder, according to online jail records.

Roberson was charged June 6 with one count each of murder, attempted murder, shooting from a motor vehicle, possession of a handgun by a felon and accessory after the fact, according to Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman with the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

In addition, Roberson is charged with four counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, along with gang and gun allegations.

Roberson is due in court for an arraignment June 23.
