Rosalio De La Rosa, 22

Rosalio De La Rosa, 22, a Latino man, died at a hospital after being shot in Van Nuys about 12:55 a.m. Sunday, June 1.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, De La Rosa was at a market when he got into a dispute with Anthony De La Cruz, a Latino. De La Rosa approached De La Cruz in the market's parking lot and asked him "Where you from?"police said. De La Cruz denied having any gang ties and went to get in his car; De La Rosa followed him, authorities said.  De La Rosa allegedly brandished a gun at De La Cruz as he followed him south on Woodley Avenue. He used his car to force De La Cruz to pull over, police said. De La Rosa then got out of his car and walked over to De La Cruz, pointing a gun at him. Fearing for his life, De La Cruz fired his own gun at De La Rosa, police said. De La Rosa was hit, collapsed and dropped his gun. A 17-year-old youth, who was in De La Rosa's car, picked up the gun and fired at De La Cruz, missing him. De La Cruz returned fire and hit the teen. Police did not say how many times they were shot.

De La Cruz fled the scene in his car and flagged down police officers who were responding to the shooting, authorities said. De La Cruz was detained and was later booked on suspicion of manslaughter, police said.  The 17-year-old youth was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released. He was then arrested on suspicion of murder, police said, based on the murder felony rule. Any person involved in a felony that results in a murder may be charged for that murder.
