A story for every victim

Ryan Washington, 18

Ryan Washington, an 18-year-old black man, was fatally shot on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the intersection of North Magnolia Court and North Paulsen Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A man who was driving to work shortly before 4 a.m. made a U-turn at the intersection and discovered Washington lying in the wet street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Derrick Alfred.

Washington was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:09 a.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

It had rained all that night, Alfred said, and it's unclear when Washington was shot. Deputies received reports about gunshots in the area around 2 a.m., but the reports were a few blocks away from where  Washington's body was later discovered.

Investigators believe Washington was living on the street and had been spending time in that area prior to his death, Alfred said. His last known address was in Compton, according to coroner's records.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
