Sohyun Shin Kim, 57

Sohyun Shin Kim, a 57-year-old Asian woman, was stabbed to death Sunday, April 19 in the 16400 block of Harvard Boulevard in Gardena, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Kim called 911 about 8:30 a.m. and reported that her son was breaking into her apartment, according to a news release from the Gardena Police Department. 

When officers arrived, they reportedly saw the victim’s son, Nicholas Hyunoh Kim, 29,  leaving his mother’s apartment. 

Officers detained the man and went inside, where they found his mother with multiple stab wounds, police said. The woman was pronounced dead at 8:57 a.m., according to the coroner’s office, and her son was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Nicholas Kim was charged with murder on April 22, with the special circumstance allegation that it occurred during the commission of a burglary, prosecutors said. Kim pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being held without bail.
