Tahir Hafeez, a 26-year-old black man, died Monday, May 2, two days after he was shot near 42nd Street and Western Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Hafeez was shot in the head April 30 about 3:25 a.m.

Neighbors heard gunshots followed by the sound of a car speeding away. Authorities were called and Hafeez was found wounded, Winter said.

The victim was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he remained until his death May 2 at 2:18 p.m.

Tahir is/was the father of our 10 year old son. He was a good brother despite his faults. He is truly missed and will never be forgotten. We love him and my son misses his dad trmendously. It was such a shock when we found out because we had just talked to him April 24 & 25, that Sun & Mon before he was murdered. We were making plans for our son to come and visit him during the summer. And just like that, he's gone. I pray his soul rest in peace. His family is constantly praying for him and we wish he still was here. This is such a tragic situation and I still can't believe it. I feel like I'm in a bad dream and all I have to do is wake up and things will be back the way they were. I cried for months and I finally got to the point where I could talk about it and not break down as much, but it still hurts especially when I look at my son who looks just like his daddy...
