Woman sentenced to 50 years in shooting of friend in Carson

A 30-year-old woman was sentenced Monday to 50 years to life in state prison for killing her friend in 2015, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

A jury on May 12 found Vershonda Charisse Sneed guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting of Bobby Ray King Jr., 34.

Prosecutors said Sneed and King were good friends, but tension had developed between them.

On the evening of June 25, 2015, Sneed went to another friend’s home in Carson. When King arrived, she shot him eight times, prosecutors said. Sneed left the scene shortly after the shooting, prosecutors added.

King was taken to a hospital where he died. Sneed was found after the shooting and arrested.
