Victor A. Quintanilla, 37
Victor Quintanilla, a 37-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Feb. 3, in the 1700 block of South Garey Avenue in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
About 10 p.m. Pomona police were called to the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant after a passerby discovered Quintanilla slumped in the driver's seat of his car, Lt. Chuck Becker said.
Quintanilla, a Pomona resident, had parked and gone inside the restaurant to purchase some food, then came back out and got into his car, where he was shot multiple times in the upper torso through the driver's side window, Becker said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:20 p.m., according to coroner's records.
Investigators haven’t found any witnesses to the shooting, Becker said, but they believe it happened within the hour before Quintanilla was found, and could be related to another shooting that was reported at 8:56 p.m. in the 1700 block of Norval Street, just a few blocks from where Quintanilla died.
In that case, three 17-year-old Pomona teenagers were standing outside a residence when an unknown male walked up to them on foot and began shooting, Becker said. The shooter then ran south toward Franklin Avenue, where a dark-colored Honda was seen speeding away from the area.
Becker said investigators don't know if the suspect actually got into the Honda, or whether the two shootings are related. Two of the boys were struck by gunfire and taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, he said. The third was uninjured.
Investigators have not discovered any connection between the boys and Quintanilla, and there is no evidence that any of the victims are gang members, he said.
