A story for every victim

Anson Scott Greenwood, 31

Anson Greenwood, a 31-year-old black man, was shot in the chest on Saturday, May 23, in the 1300 block of West Manchester Avenue in Vermont Knolls, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

The shooting, in which another man was wounded, occurred shortly before 5 p.m., said Sgt. Mike Flanagan of the Los Angeles Police Department. Two gunmen walked up to Greenwood and the other man and opened fire as they stood outside a doughnut shop, he said.

Both victims were taken to a hospital. Greenwood died later that day.  The other man, who was shot in the back, was listed in stable condition, Flanagan said.

Witnesses told police that the gunmen drove off. No other details were immediately available.

Authorities said they had very few leads and asked anyone with information to contact 77th Area Criminal Gang/Homicide Group, Dets. Ernesto Mendoza or Armando Bernal, at (213) 485-1383.
