Jacare Demar Smith, a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the 3800 block of El Segundo Boulevard in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records
Smith was standing with two other men in front of Young's Liquor Mart at the southwest corner of El Segundo Boulevard and Doty Avenue about 3:21 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Witnesses told investigators that a dark-colored four-door sedan pulled into the parking lot and three black men got out, Mendoza said. The men who got out of the car had a brief argument with one of the three men, then one of the men who got out of the car pulled out a gun and began firing.

Jaquarius Nyshawn Quinn, a 17-year-old black teenager, died Sunday, Nov 6, after he was found in the 2300 block of Old Harold Road in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies were called to the scene about 8:30 p.m. after receiving a report about a person lying in the road, between the shoulder and southbound lanes, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Quinn was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the upper torso, Mendoza said. He was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators initially couldn’t identify Quinn because he wasn’t carrying ID, Mendoza said.
The next day, his grandmother came to the sheriff’s station to report him missing, and from her description they were able to identify his body, Mendoza said.

Elijah Brown, a 26-year-old black man, died Sunday, Nov. 6, after being fatally shot in the 2300 block of East Spaulding Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9:55 p.m., Long Beach police received a call about a shooting victim in the area, according to a news release. Upon arriving, officers found Brown suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:20 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Detectives are investigating the death and pursuing all leads, according to a police spokeswoman.

Louis Dennard Campbell III, a 27-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the 37300 block of 28th Street East in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Campbell, who lived in Lancaster, was found in a vacant house where people congregate to sleep, do drugs or hang out, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Rosson.
Deputies were called to the scene about 8 p.m. by a homeless man who said he’d been in another part of the house listening to music on his phone with headphones, Rosson said.
When he walked into the living room, he told investigators he discovered Campbell lying on the floor with what looked like a blunt-force injury.
After paramedics moved Campbell, it became apparent he had been shot, Rosson said. Investigators found at least one bullet casing at the scene.

Cedric Beadega-Staten, a 31-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the 1000 block of El Segundo Boulevard in Athens, just north of Gardena, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Beadega-Staten drove into the parking lot of the Liquor and Joy liquor store in his silver Honda sedan about 7 p.m. and walked inside to buy something, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Rosson.
While inside, Beadega-Staten got into an argument with the only other customer in the store, a 21-year-old black man, Rosson said.
Both men had different gang affiliations, Rosson said, and investigators believe the argument was gang-related.
When the two men left the store, they both pulled handguns and shot each other in the chest, Rosson said.

Lexington Elliot Brandon, an 8-month-old black baby, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the 3200 block of Flower Street in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators.
Lexington's maternal grandmother called 911 about 4:53 p.m. after she walked into the kitchen where her daughter was giving the baby a bath, Lt. Mike Rosson said.
“The mother was holding the baby in her arms, and the baby appeared to be in great distress,” Rosson said. “He was looking dead.”
Paramedics took the unresponsive baby to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m., according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Michael Thompson, a 47-year-old black man, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, after being fatally shot weeks earlier in the 1800 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
About 10 a.m. Oct. 9, Long Beach police responded to a call about gunshots, according to a news release. Officers found Thompson with several wounds to his chest.
Thompson was taken to a hospital, where he died of his wounds at 2:29 a.m. Nov. 1, according to coroner's records.
On Nov. 9, officers arrested Justin White, 27, on suspicion of murder in Thompson's killing, the release said. White was charged Nov. 15 with five felony counts, including murder, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, and drug possession.

Michelle Lee Shirley, a 39-year-old black woman, was shot to death by a Torrance police officer Monday, Oct. 31, near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Cabrillo Avenue in Torrance, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
About 2:28 p.m., Torrance officers received a multiple calls about a reckless driver, according to a news release. Callers said a Ford Fusion,had collision damage and that the side airbags had deployed, the release said.
Once police spotted the car, officers boxed it in, according the news release. As the driver tried to get away, officers opened fire on the car, striking the driver, who was later identified as Shirley, the release said.
