Bobby Alvin Fields, 39

Bobby Alvin Fields, a 39-year-old black man, died Friday, Sept. 23, after he was shot near West 48th Street and Halldale Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before midnight on Sept. 22, Fields and a woman were in a light-colored van parked facing south on Halldale Avenue, said Los Angeles police Det. Chris Barling.

A dark sedan pulled up and two black men got out and asked for money, then opened fire, Barling said.

Fields was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m. on Sept. 23. The woman is expected to survive.

The sedan drove away southbound on Halldale Avenue.
