Daughter found guilty of murdering father

A 62-year-old white woman was found guilty Nov. 21 of second-degree murder in a 2008 killing in Bellflower, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

The jury deliberated for three days before convicting Linda Sue Copeland of killing her 90-year-old father, Ralph Stofleth, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Tina Hooks.

Stofleth was found dead May 19, 2008, in the backyard of a home in the 9800 block of Potter Street in Bellflower, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Coroner's officials believe he had been killed sometime between Feb. 1 and Feb. 8.

His body was discovered partly buried near a shed in the backyard of the home he shared with his daughter, said Hooks.

Copeland, who faces up to 15 years in prison, is expected back in court on Jan. 9 for sentencing.
