A story for every victim

Ilan Sergio Hernandez, 20

Ilan Hernandez, a 20-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, a day after he was shot in the 1900 block of West Pico Boulevard in Pico-Union, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a shooting call about 11:46 p.m. Monday, according to an LAPD news release. When police arrived, they found Hernandez on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead the next day, officials said. Coroner’s records show Hernandez died from a gunshot wound to the head.

During the investigation, detectives learned Hernandez was walking with a woman when a person, possibly driving a Ford Expedition, began cursing at the two.

At that point, the person pulled out a gun and fired several times, striking Hernandez and the woman.

Hernandez collapsed on the ground while the woman ran to a nearby residence. The woman's family then drove her to the hospital where she was listed in stable condition, officials said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Rampart homicide Det. Pere at (213) 484-3638. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
