After the shooting, police saw one suspected assailant get into a mini-van while the other ran away, authorities said. One of the suspects threw a handgun on the roof of San Antonio De Padua Church.

Officials apprehended both men and they were arrested on suspicion of murder, police said. The suspected assailants have been identified as Jimmy Padilla, an 18-year-old Latino, and Felix Lopez, a 26-year-old Latino.

LAPD Hollenbeck Division Det. Jose Ramirez said Padilla and Lopez are documented gang members and the shooting is believed to be gang-related.

Hernandez, who had no gang affiliation, was mistaken for a gang member and that is why he was shot, investigators said.
