A story for every victim

Christian Arturo Marin, 24

Christian Marin, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Dec. 23, in the 1000 block of West 104th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Marin was in a car with two other men going west on 104th Street about 5:30 p.m. when they stopped to look at a house that was under construction, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

After noticing two black males watching them, Marin and his friends decided to drive away, officials said. At 104th Street and Vermont Avenue, they stopped their car at a stop sign. At that point, a vehicle drove up behind them, a black male exited the passenger side and then fired several gunshots into Marin's car, striking all three occupants.

The shooter got into his vehicle and fled the scene, authorities said.

Authorities were called and Marin, who was in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from a gunshot wound to the head, coroner's records show.

The rear passenger, later identified as Andy Bonilla, an 18-year-old Latino, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died from a gunshot wound to the back, according to coroner's officials.

The driver suffered grazing non-life-threatening bullet wounds, officials said.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
