A story for every victim

Jose Antonio Parra, 35

Jose Parra, a 35-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, Dec. 12, in the 1100 block of Kristi Court in North El Monte, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Parra, his wife and three children, ages 3, 5, and 6, were returning home about 8 p.m. when they were confronted by an armed man who demanded cash, according to an L.A. County Sheriff's Department report.

Parra handed over the family’s rent money, which was all the money he possessed. The gunman demanded more, according to the report.

The assailant took the family at gunpoint inside the home and shut the mother and three children inside a bedroom. A short while later, they heard gunshots and ran out to find Parra dead on the floor. The intruder had already left the scene, according to the report.

Coroner’s records show Parra was shot four times in the head.

Officials said the shooter is about 5 feet 7, weighs about 150 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing dark clothing, including a black hooded sweatshirt and had a Band-Aid under his eye.
