Lamar Thomas, 39

Lamar Thomas, a 39-year-old black man, died Sunday, Sept. 6 after he was shot in the 4700 block of South Avalon Boulevard in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Sept. 2 about 12:30 p.m., Thomas was at a funeral when members of a rival gang walked up to his group, said LAPD Det. Richard Arciniega. There was an exchange of gunfire and Thomas was hit.

Thomas was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead four days later, according to coroner's records.

The gunmen fled east on East 47th Street.

December 27, 2015 I was trying to call you only to find out that you were gone.... Broken Hearted!!!!!!! Words cannot explain the shock that I felt when I realized I would not hear your voice again... a beautiful soul is what he is and was... truly a lover of people and ideas, always talking about goals and dreams. Lamar was never in my encounter selfish man nor an angry man, just passionate about life and being better. I love this man as a brother, a lover, a father, friend... Just a Beautiful Individual YOU will always be my Favorite 4th of July Lamar.... he didn't know but thats what I called him..
