A story for every victim

Shoichi Joe Minesaki, 19

Shoichi Joe Minesaki, a 19-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, June 6, in the 6800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this post, based on preliminary information from the coroner's office, identified the victim as a Latino in his 20s.]

Police arrived to the area at 1:30 a.m. in response to a call of multiple shots fired and found Minesaki crumpled on the ground next to his bicycle, said Los Angeles police spokesman Bruce Borihanh.

Minesaki was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

A sheriff's deputy in the area chased a white van seen leaving the area, and called in a Los Angeles police helicopter patrol when he lost it, Borihanh said. The van was located a few blocks from the shooting site but the people inside had vanished.

Officers were going door to door questioning residents in an attempt to find the suspects, he said.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
