Rogelio Alvarado, 23

Rogelio Alvarado, a 23-year-old Latino, died Sunday, Sept. 18, in the 1100 block of West Anaheim Street in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Alvarado had severe stab wounds when police found him about 5 a.m., lying on the ground in a courtyard. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

During the investigation, officials learned Alvarado was standing with friends in the 800 block of Wilmington Avenue when a suspect -- police could not say whether it was a man or a woman -- approached him and asked for a beverage.

Alvarado declined, and the suspect stabbed him. Alvarado ran to the courtyard, where he collapsed. Police are still searching for the suspect. A motive for the killing remains unknown.
