Todd Dunlap, a 45-year-old black man, was found Dec. 31, 2017, with fatal stab wounds in the 900 block of Elm Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Long Beach police responded about 6 a.m. to call about a man down, according to a news release. Police found Dunlap in an alley with an injury to his head, the release said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:23 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Later that day, officers arrested Ernest Weston, 87, and James Leonard Pettie, 58, at the apartment they had shared with Dunlap in the 400 block of 5th Street, less than a mile from the scene, according to officials. Police say Weston stabbed Dunlap and Leonard helped dump the body in the alley. Authorities did not disclose the location of the attack.

Martin Leska, an 83-year-old white man, was pronounced dead on Saturday, Dec. 16, after being found stabbed at his home in the 5500 block of Alessandro Avenue in Temple City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies were called to Leska’s home about 5:50 a.m. after a family member requested a check on his welfare, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore.
Relatives told investigators they hadn’t heard from or spoken to Leska for “several days,” Moore said.
Leska was found inside his home with at least one stab wound in his upper torso, Moore said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:50 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Moore said investigators aren’t revealing any details about the condition of the house, or how Leska’s attacker got inside.

Wynborne Cunningham, a 26-year-old black man, was found stabbed to death Sunday, Dec. 10, in the 2000 block of South Arlington Street in Arlington Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
On Wednesday, Dec. 6 between 7 and 10 p.m., Cunningham got into an argument with a cousin who had come to visit, which resulted in a stabbing inside the victim's apartment, said Los Angeles Police Lt. John Radtke.
The suspect, later identified as Ethan Webber, a 24-year-old black man, then jumped from a window in the second-floor apartment and ran away, investigators said.
On Dec. 10, an apartment manager discovered Cunningham’s body, police said. Authorities were called, and Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:57 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Iyayi Orhue Amayo, a 34-year-old black man, was fatally stabbed Thursday, Nov. 9, near West 42nd Street and Walton Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Amayo was stabbed shortly after 3:30 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling.
People in the neighborhood found him wounded and called authorities, Barling said.
Amayo was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:16 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Amayo was not a gang member and the motive for his stabbing remains unclear, according to detectives.

Marcelo Campos, a 62-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the 900 block of West 84th Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Campos was standing on the northeast corner of the street about 6:30 p.m. when a man wearing a shirt or a sweater as a head wrap stabbed him, Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling said.
The assailant ran north on South Vermont Avenue, Barling said.
Police are unsure why Campos, who recently had moved to the area, was targeted and said he wasn’t involved in gangs or other criminal activity.
Authorities said a suspect was arrested and later released because of lack of evidence. The investigation is ongoing.

Will Alfredo Navarro-Leiva, a 40-year-old Latino, died Monday, Nov. 6, after he was stabbed in the 7300 block of Cloverlawn Drive in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Navarro-Leiva was outside, in front of his home, at 5:50 p.m., when he got into an argument with his 16-year-old neighbor, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
“During the argument, the suspect approached him and stabbed him in the chest,” Mendoza said. “We think they’ve had problems in the past, and the argument escalated for some unknown reason.”
The weapon was described as a large knife, Mendoza said.
