Edgar Javier Godinez Gomez, a 26-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Sept.29, after he was shot in the 2000 block of Saybrook Avenue in Commerce, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Employees coming to work in the industrial neighborhood spotted Godinez Gomez’s body around 8 a.m., lying along an access road near some railroad tracks behind a warehouse, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred said. He had been shot in the head multiple times.
“The body was lying out in the open. It would be hard to miss,” Alfred said. “It looked like he’d been there for several hours.”
Godinez Gomez, a resident of the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:25 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Enrique Simon Guzman-Rios, a 34-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the corner of Fair Street and South Atlantic Boulevard in Commerce, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Witnesses said that Guzman-Rios was hanging out in the parking lot of Arrow Liquor, at 2177 South Atlantic Boulevard, when he got into an argument with another Latino around 6 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero.
The other man pulled out a gun and shot Guzman-Rios in the upper torso from a few feet away, Quintero said.
Guzman-Rios ran into the liquor store, where he collapsed, Quintero said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:18 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators believe Guzman-Rios was homeless at the time he died, because they found a bag of his belongings not far from where he was shot, Quintero said.

Ernest Ramos, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 1, in the 5100 block of Astor Avenue in Commerce, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 9 p.m., Ramos was standing in front of his home when three Latinos walked up to him, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
One of the men pulled out a gun and began shooting at Ramos, who was pronounced dead at 9:12 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
The three men ran south and got into a vehicle, according to the news release. The vehicle went south on Astor Avenue.

Bryan Hernandez, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, June 30, in the 5900 block of Eastern Avenue in Commerce, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Hernandez was bicycling from work to his home in East Los Angeles when he was shot near Peachtree Street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Holly Francisco.
Investigators have no suspect information. The incident was first reported as a possible hit and run, Francisco said, because the reporting party saw Hernandez by the road with his bicycle.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:10 a.m., coroner’s records said.
