Sulma Flores, a 36-year-old Latina, died Saturday, Jan. 14, six days after she was shot in the 17500 block of Gilmore Street in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records and police.
About 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 8, police and prosecutors said, a man, later identified by authorities as 32-year-old Marcos Tulio Flores, got into an argument with his family, then shot Sulma Flores, his sister-in-law.
Marcos Flores then fled, police said. About 11 p.m. the next night, police spotted Marcos Flores, who led them on a chase in his gray Acura, prosecutors and police said.
During the chase, the driver was seen tossing items out of the car and at one point fired a gun, prosecutors said.
Eventually, Marcos Flores was stopped and arrested on the 405 Freeway in Westwood. He had to be subdued by a police dog before being taken into custody.
