Robert Melton Colvin, a 39-year-old white man, was fatally shot by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday, May 29, in the 1700 block of West Avenue K in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
At 7:48 p.m., deputies patrolling the Lancaster Station area saw a man walking east on the sidewalk, according to a news release from the department.
Deputies approached the man and said they saw a “firearm in his hand.”
Deputies got into an altercation with Colvin, who was “taken to the ground, during which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.”
Colvin was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said a replica firearm was found at the scene.

Michael Phillip Uccello, a 48-year-old white man, was fatally shot by a U.S. Marshal on Thursday, Oct. 10, near the intersection of 10th Street West and Holguin Street in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
A U.S. Marshal Fugitive Apprehension Team with a South District of Ohio warrant accusing Uccello of conspiracy to traffic narcotics had been following the man that morning, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Brandon Dean.
When Uccello pulled into a gas station around 9 a.m., eight marshals tried to make a traffic stop to arrest him, Dean said. Uccello allegedly initially pulled over, but then quickly drove into a nearby residential area, he said, with the marshals in pursuit in seven different vehicles.

Matthew Thomas Quinn, a 45-year-old white man, was fatally shot by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies Thursday, Feb. 11, in the 2800 block of La Vida Drive in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies were called to the neighborhood at 6:48 p.m. after receiving reports that a man was threatening his neighbor with an ax.
The man, later identified as Quinn, got into an argument with one of his neighbors and swung an ax at him, threatening to kill him, according to a department news release.
When deputies arrived, Quinn was standing on his front lawn holding an ax that was about 4 feet long, according to the news release. The deputies ordered him to drop the ax, but he refused and started to walk toward them, according to the release.

Arturo Robert Lopez, a 46-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy on Friday, July 3, in the 3100 block of West Avenue K-4 in Lancaster, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.
The incident began about 11:30 p.m. when members of the Gang Unit's Operation Safe Streets Bureau were patrolling on foot and saw two men walking on the street.
The men appeared to be intoxicated and the deputies asked them to stop and talk, but the men allegedly ignored the commands, sheriff's Lt. John Corina said.
"They actually tried to run away, and then one of the suspects pulled out a gun and fired on them," Corina said. "He didn't hit the deputies, but they returned fire and shot him."

Steven Bowman, a 60-year-old white man, was shot and killed by deputies Friday, Nov. 9, in the 45900 block of Desert Springs Drive in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Bowman was fatally shot about 10:20 a.m. by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies after he lead them on an hourlong car chase through the Santa Clarita Valley.
Authorities believed Bowman robbed the Bank of America at 26811 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. Police said he then fled, driving on the 14 Freeway. Just after 10 a.m., Bowman pulled off of the freeway, driving over a spike strip placed by police, and his dark-colored SUV was surrounded by sheriff's vehicles in a residential cul-de-sac.
He then got out of his vehicle as if to surrender, dropping his jacket to the ground. Bowman reached back into the car and began firing at deputies through the windshield, police said.

Donald Handy, a 68-year-old white man, was shot and killed by a deputy Wednesday, Feb. 1, in the 44900 block of Spearman Avenue in Lancaster, according to L.A. County coroner's records.
Deputies went to a home to serve a narcotics search warrant at 9:30 p.m. when Handy suddenly came out of a bedroom holding a 4-foot sword, said Lt. Mary Leef of the Sheriff's Department.
Handy raised the sword at a deputy, who then fired multiple shots at him.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital, Leef said. Coroner’s records show Handy died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Three other people in the home were detained without incident.

Christian Cobian, a 26-year-old Latino, was fatally shot by sheriff's deputies Saturday, Jan. 21, in the 44200 block of 10th Street West in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Two deputies on patrol attempted to stop Cobian shortly before 11 p.m. near the intersection of 10th Street and Avenue J-4. Officials said Cobian was riding a bicycle without a headlight in a dimly lighted area.
As deputies approached, Cobian dropped his bicycle and ran into the rear of a nearby business. The deputies chased him. The deputies alleged that he reached toward his waistband. Fearing for their safety, they said, they opened fire.
Cobian was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputies were not injured.
Investigators have been unable to find a weapon in the area near where deputies shot Cobian, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Chris Barrett, a 44-year-old white man, was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy on Tuesday, Dec. 21, in the 6800 block of Agave Street in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were serving a narcotics-related search warrant about 6 p.m. when Barrett became hostile and unleashed a large dog, authorities said.
The dog was shot and injured by deputies. At that point, authorities said Barrett hurled a butcher knife at one of the officers.
The knife did not strike any of the deputies, but when Barrett reached down and picked up a second butcher knife, a deputy fired two rounds from a shotgun, striking and killing him
Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog was taken by animal control.
The shooting is under investigation.
