Mharloun Verdejo Saycon, a 39-year-old Filipino man, was shot and killed by a Long Beach police officer Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at 2500 Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Long Beach officers were called to Looff’s Lite-A-Line arcade at 10:08 p.m. after receiving a report that a man inside was armed with a knife, according to a department news release.

As they were driving to the scene, the officers received an update that the man, later identified as Saycon, was waving the knife and frightening people at the arcade.

When officers arrived, they saw Saycon sitting in a chair “still armed with a knife,” according to the release. Saycon refused to comply with the officers’ orders to drop the knife, even after they used a Taser and baton to try to get him to drop the weapon.

Derrick Lee Hunt, a 28-year-old black man, died after an officer-involved shooting Friday, Aug. 7, in the 3200 block of East Artesia Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

The incident began about 8:17 p.m., when Long Beach Police officers received a call about a stabbing in progress involving multiple victims in the Artesia Courts apartment complex, according to a department news release. 

Officers found that a man, later identified as Hunt, had allegedly stabbed his 29-year-old wife, her 25-year-old brother and a 24-year-old neighbor, who lived near them in the complex, the release said.

Hunt then allegedly left the complex and entered a convalescent home on the south side of the street, where he allegedly stabbed three female employees, ages 23, 24 and 33.

Feras Morad, a 20-year-old man, was shot and killed by Long Beach police officers Wednesday, May 27 in the 4600 block of East 15th Street in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

About 7:30 p.m., Long Beach police received a call of a person who had fallen out of a second-story window and who was acting “intoxicated and displayed violent behavior,” according to a news release from the department.

Police said that Morad started “acting erratically and got into a physical altercation with his friends that lasted approximately 10 minutes,” according to a department statement.

Morad then jumped through a second-story plate-glass window, the release said.

An arriving officer saw a man covered in blood and announced he was there to help him, according to the release, but Morad moved toward him “telling the officer he was going to attack him.”

 Hector Leonardo Morejon, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a Long Beach police officer Thursday, April 23, in the 1100 block of Hoffman Avenue, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department. 

Morejon was shot in a vacant apartment about 2:45 p.m. while officers were investigating a trespassing and vandalism complaint, according to the release. Officers found an open window in the back of the apartment and a broken window.

When one of the officers looked through the broken window, he saw a man standing next to a wall, police said. The man allegedly turned toward him "while bending his knees and extending his arm out as if pointing an object, which the officer perceived was a a gun."

The officer shot at the man, critically injuring Morejon, police said. Morejon was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:40 p.m.
