Armando Garcia-Muro, a 17-year-old Latino, was killed Thursday, June 22, when he was struck by a deputy’s ricocheting bullet fired at a charging dog in the 38500 block of 10th Street East in Palmdale.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the apartment complex about 3:40 a.m. regarding a complaint about loud music, said Lt. Rodney Moore. As the deputies walked up the driveway, a 60- to 65-pound pit bull charged them and bit one on the knee, Moore said.
The deputies pulled back to nurse the injured deputy, and a teenage boy ran out to drag the dog behind the apartment complex, Moore said.
The boy, later identified as Armando, tied the dog up, but at some point it apparently broke free and ran toward the deputies again, Moore said.

Leroy Browning, a 30-year-old black man, was killed by law enforcement Sunday, Dec. 20, in the 37900 block of 47th Street East in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
The incident began about 3 a.m. when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies received a report about a car crashing into a Taco Bell restaurant, Lt. Dave Coleman said.
When deputies arrived, they found a man later identified as Browning unconscious behind the wheel of a car that had struck the wall of the building, near the drive-through window.
After Browning regained consciousness, deputies put him in the back of their patrol car and conducted a sobriety test, Coleman said.
When the results indicated that Browning had failed the test, Coleman said, one of the deputies opened the back door of the patrol car intending to handcuff Browning and place him under arrest.

William Forrest Spargur II, a 36-year-old white man, was shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies on Friday, Nov. 7, near Rancho Vista Boulevard and Cricket Lane in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 4 a.m., deputies received a call of a possibly suicidal man with a gun, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.
When deputies arrived, Spargur allegedly pointed a gun at them and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Spargur was pronounced dead at 3:51 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records. A gun was recovered at the scene, authorities said.
Coroner’s records show that Spargur was talking with a friend on Facebook making suicidal remarks and the friend called authorities.

Javier Ortiz, a 31-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Friday, Aug. in the 38500 block of Larkin Avenue in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
According to sheriff's officials, authorities were summoned to the scene by a report that a man in the area was "acting violently.” Deputies spoke to members of Ortiz's family, who said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Soon afterward, they were contacted by an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer, who said he and his fiancée had been assaulted by a man with a pipe whose appearance matched the description of Ortiz, authorities said.

Darrell Logan, a 32-year-old black man, was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy Thursday, Oct. 13, in the 3100 block of Heather Avenue in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Deputies late Thursday morning responded to a call that gunfire was coming from a house, officials said.
When deputies reached the home, they ordered people in the garage to come out, but the people refused, said Lt. Mary Leef.
Deputies then entered the garage and were confronted by Logan, who was armed, Leef said. Logan was shot and taken to a hospital, where he died. A handgun was recovered from the scene.
Leef said it was not clear if that was the weapon Logan used to confront deputies.
The deputy’s name is not being released pending an investigation, Leef said.

Jose Monteon Jr., identified by the coroner's office as a 19-year-old white man, was fatally shot by a deputy Friday, April 8, in the 200 block of East Avenue R in Palmdale, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies responded to a “man with a gun” call. When they arrived, they found Monteon armed at the scene.
They ordered him to put his gun down, but he didn’t comply, authorities said. He was shot and hit “multiple times” then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Coroner's records show Monteon was hit with at least eight to 11 rounds in the torso, arm, leg and head.
No deputies were injured.
Sheriff’s officials said the weapon was recovered.
Like all officer-involved shootings, the incident is under investigation.

Christopher Glass, a 17-year-old black man, was shot and killed by sheriff deputies Tuesday, March 1, in the 500 block of East Avenue P-14 in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Deputies shot and killed the teenager after a short pursuit because he was behaving in a threatening manner toward them, sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said.
