Jairo Armando Pedraza, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police officers Friday, April 4, in the 6400 block of Olcott Street in Tujunga, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4 p.m. Foothill Division officers responded to a call of a man who was attempting to kill himself with a knife, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
When officers arrived, they encountered a man, later identified as Pedraza, armed with a knife, according to the release.
Officers tried to subdue Pedraza and used a “department approved Taser.”
“The suspect appeared unaffected by the Taser and ran to a nearby backyard where he confronted officers with a knife, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred," according to the release.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Pedraza dead at 4:38 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Reynaldo Tiria Yandan, a 60-year-old Filipino man, was found dead Tuesday, March 4, after he was shot in the 10400 block of Plainview Avenue in Tujunga, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
After Yandan didn’t show up to work, a co-worker went to his home and found Yandan’s body, said LAPD Det. Anthony Stephenson.
Paramedics who came to the scene pronounced Yandan dead at 3:50 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. An autopsy showed that Yandan died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police believe that Yandan was killed on March 1. According to surveillance video, Yandan was seen entering his home around noon on that day.

Cesar Verdugo, a 35-year-old Latino, was found dead Thursday, June 21, on La Tuna Canyon Road, northwest of the 210 Freeway in Tujunga, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
A fire was reported on La Tuna Canyon Road about 2:50 a.m., said Sgt. Jim Reid of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Station.
“When they were extinguishing the fire, they discovered a body,” Reid said. The body was located on the side of the road.
Coroner's officials later identified the person as Cesar Verdugo.
A day after the incident , LAPD Lt. Scott Harrelson said the burning body appeared to have ignited the brush fire, but investigators were still trying to determine who or what set the man's body on fire.
The case is being investigated as a homicide, he said.
According to coroner's records, the incident was a possible body dump. The victim suffered unknown trauma.

Damaris Quiles, 35, a Latina woman, and her mother, Carmen Quiles, 73, were allegedly stabbed to death by Walter Garcia, 37, about 8:45 a.m. in Tujunga on Thursday, Jan. 10, in an apparent double murder-suicide.
Garcia was arguing with Damaris, and her mother, who lived with her at 6846 Quinton Lane, came outside to intervene. Garcia allegedly stabbed the two women, then drove to Pasadena and jumped to his death from the Colorado Street Bridge.
The mother was declared dead at the scene, and Damaris was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:35 a.m., said spokeswoman Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department. The couple had a 6-year-old son, who was at school at the time of the incident.
Carmen Quiles, a 73-year-old Latina woman, was the victim of a double homicide in Tujunga on Thursday, Jan. 10.
Ronnie Burgess, 21, a white young man, was killed in a drive-by shooting at 7:45 p.m. in the 10100 block of Samoa Avenue in Tujunga.
This happened in a neighborhood of Tujunga called "The Rock." Burgess was walking home. The suspects, a group in a car, cruised by in a car and demanded, "Where you from?"
They shot him for his answer, according to Foothill homicide Det. Pat Barron. Officers got a shooting call and found him dead.
The description of the suspects and their car matched that connected to another shooting case, and also to a pursuit case in Pasadena. Glendale police spotted the stolen car and took the suspects into custody. They found a shell casing in the car. Some of the group were charged with joy-riding and jailed. Arman Tomanyan, a 28-year-old man of Armenian descent, was found wounded from gunfire outside the family business in the 6600 block of Foothill Boulevard on Friday, June 8, about 8:30 p.m.
He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Erroneous information about a fleeing suspect put LAPD patrol officers into chase mode right after this shooting. Officers pursued a car they thought belonged to the suspect for two hours around the city until they finally apprehended the driver, learned that he was a parolee with a suspended license, and that he had no apparent connection to the shooting.
