Arnold Farran, a 75-year-old white man, was fatally shot Wednesday, Aug. 1, in the 500 block of Westlake Boulevard near Malibu in the unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Farran’s house about 10:27 p.m. by one of his adult sons, who said his mother had called him to report she had just shot his father, said L.A. County Sheriff's Lt. Derrick Alfred. 

When deputies arrived at Farran’s house, they found his wife, Patricia Farran, a 76-year-old white woman, waiting out front in her car, Alfred said. 

Deputies found Arnold Farran’s body inside the house, Alfred said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:48 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head.

Roger Eli Chavez Barahona, a 19-year-old Latino male, died Friday, July 27, after being shot in Unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Tristan Thomas Beaudette, a 35-year-old white man, was shot and killed Friday, June 22, at Malibu Creek State Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Beaudette was shot inside his tent about 4:45 a.m. while he was camping with his two young daughters, ages 2 and 4, in the 1900 block of Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Beaudette was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:21 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore said investigators are trying to identify the assailant and are sifting through evidence from the scene for leads.

Beaudette was a renowned scientist who worked in pharmaceuticals. His family said he loved cooking and microbrews. 

He was married to his high school sweetheart and was “happiest out in nature,” they said.

Francisco Reynaldo Cruz, a 52-year-old Latino male, died Wednesday, May 16, after being stabbed in Unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Kaylin Marie Mathews, a 20-year-old white female, died Tuesday, July 1, in Unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Craig Allen Carper, a 21-year-old white male, died Monday, Jan. 21, in Unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Arturo Guzman, 29, a Latino man, was shot in the head by a state park ranger Saturday, Aug. 4, about 3:26 p.m. near Las Virgenes Road and Piuma Road in Tapia Park near Malibu. He died at 3:47 p.m.

The ranger, responding to reports of gunshots, spotted Guzman in the car with three other people. California Parks and Recreation officials said the ranger tried to stop the car, but it kept moving and bumped him; the ranger then shot Guzman. Sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating.

Adrian Gustavo Barral, a 30-year-old Latino male, died Friday, Feb. 21, after being shot in Unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
