Daniel Joseph Carver, a 29-year-old white man, was shot by Los Angeles police Monday, April 9, in the 6500 block of Corbin Avenue in Winnetka, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Officers were driving in the area about 10 a.m. when they got a "LoJack hit" alerting them that a vehicle had been stolen, LAPD officials said. They pursued the vehicle for about seven minutes, then chased the driver on foot after he ran from the vehicle, which was identified as a brown Ford Explorer.
The officers chased the driver, later identified as Carver, into an alley, where police said he pulled a gun and shot at them, wounding one officer in the left leg. The officers then returned fire, striking Carver.
Carver was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:47 a.m.

Francisco Rodriguez Jr., a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the 6900 block of Cozycroft Avenue in Winnetka, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Rodriguez, who had just returned home from a soccer game, answered the front door of his home about 6 p.m. to find a girl with red hair there.
Rodriguez told his family that he was stepping out and was almost immediately shot by a man in a waiting SUV.
Authorities were called and the victim was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Several days after the shooting, two people were arrested in connection with the killing.

Wilmer Flores, a 33-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Nov. 19, in the 8300 block of Lurline Avenue in Winnetka, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Officers responded to a shooting call about 2:15 p.m., according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release. When officers arrived, they found Flores lying unconscious on the floor, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics were called and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, homicide detectives identified the alleged shooter as the victim's uncle, Julio Cesar Garcia Flores, a 52-year-old Latino. Authorities said they believe Julio Flores pointed a loaded shotgun at his nephew and shot him before fleeing.
Detectives followed several leads as to the whereabouts of Julio Flores and on Nov. 20, he was found in the Hollywood area, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.
