Alexander Emeka Anene, 48

Alexander Emeka Anene, a 48-year-old black man, died Wednesday, April 20, after he was shot in the 1700 block of West 125th Street in the Athens neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Anene was in the laundry room of his apartment building washing his clothes around 2 a.m., when he was shot numerous times, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza. 

Residents in the building called 911 to report gunfire, Mendoza said, but it wasn’t until sometime later, when someone walked into the laundry room, that Anene was discovered lying on the ground. 

Anene was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:20 a.m., according to coroner’s records. 

Investigators have no information about suspects or a motive for the shooting, Mendoza said.
