Benjamin Charles Bittner, 35

Benjamin Bittner, a 35-year-old white man, was shot and killed by police Saturday, March 24, in the 7400 block of Craner Avenue in Sun Valley, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a home where Bittner had threatened family members. As he was leaving the premises after 7 p.m., at least one officer shot him, said Officer Karima Tahir.

Bittner was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

KTLA Channel 5 reported that Bittner appeared to be drunk and had brandished a knife at the home. He allegedly pulled out a handgun when he approached police in the backyard, according to what police told the station.

Tahir was unable to provide any additional details.
