Florinda Velasquez-Hernandez, 64
Florinda Velasquez-Hernandez, a 64-year-old Latina, was found dead Feb. 4 after she had been strangled near the 3300 block of Maxson Road in El Monte, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
A person called authorities around 10:25 a.m. to report a man pushing a large blue plastic container out of a trailer to a dumpster, said Los Angeles Sheriff's Det. Louie Aguilera.
Officers arrived and began speaking to the witness, then began looking for the large plastic container, Aguilera said.
Officers found Velasquez-Hernandez inside the dumpster stuffed in a container. An autopsy determined that she had been strangled, according to coroner's records.
David Stanley Lemus-Orellana, a 22-year-old Latino, was charged with murder Feb. 6, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
Authorities said that Orellana and Velasquez-Hernandez were roommates who lived in a trailer with two others. Each person subleased a room, Aguilera said.
Aguilera said detectives are still trying to determine what led to the killing.
