Hong Phuc Thi Nguyen, 34

Hong Nguyen, a 34-year-old Asian woman, was fatally shot Saturday, July 17, in the 11400 block of Thienes Avenue in South El Monte, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Deputies from the Temple station responded to an "assault with a deadly weapon, gunshot victim call" about 4:45 a.m., according to a sheriff's news release.

When they arrived at the location, they found a man in a doorway with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

While checking the area for other victims, deputies found Nguyen with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Los Angeles County Fire paramedics pronounced Nguyen dead at the scene, sheriff's officials said.

The relationship between the man and Nguyen remains unknown.
