Jason Christopher Guijarro, 19
Jason Guijarro, a 19-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, April 1, a day after he was shot in the head in the 2200 block of West Merced Avenue in West Covina, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Guijarro and Isaac Parra, a 17-year-old Latino, were both fatally shot at about 10:30 p.m. on March 31 while in a van at an intersection, officials said.
Authorities said the motive for the shooting "stemmed from a dispute between an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend."
Gerardo Fonseca Jr, a 22-year-old Latino from Arcadia, and Melissa Ann Goree, a 20-year-old woman from Baldwin Park, were arrested soon after the shooting.
Juan Martin Anda, a 24-year-old Latino from Baldwin Park, was arrested by West Covina Police about a month later.
On Feb. 18, 2011, a jury convicted Fonseca and Anda of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said they opted not to seek the death penalty for the two men. The defendants face lifetime imprisonment without parole.
Additionally, the jury acquitted Fonseca and Anda of two counts of attempted murder and one count of making a criminal threat. Goree was also acquitted of all charges.
