Nelva D. Hernandez, a 45-year-old Latina, died Saturday, April 5, a week after she was shot in the 3800 block of Cimarron Street in Exposition Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Hernandez and other family members were coming back from a celebration Saturday, March 29 about 10:30 p.m. and were parking a car near their home when a dark-colored SUV going eastbound stopped in the road, said Los Angeles police Det. Sal LaBarbera.
A black man got out of the car and fired multiple gunshots at another man who was walking across Cimarron Street.
One of the bullets went through the back window, missed a toddler by inches and hit Hernandez in the back of the head, LaBarbera said.
Hernandez was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead April 5 at 3:35 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
