Three accused in shooting of Downey officer are facing more charges
Three people charged in the killing of a Downey police officer in November now face additional charges, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Steven Knott, 18; Abel Diaz, 17; and Jeremy Anthony Alvarez, 21, were initially charged with murder and attempted robbery in the fatal shooting of Officer Ricardo Galvez. Diaz was charged as an adult.
On Aug. 2, the three were additionally charged in connection with an armed robbery in Paramount. Knott and Alvarez also face a count of armed robbery in an incident at a cellphone store in Bellflower the same day Galvez was killed.
In addition, Knott faces a count related to a shooting at a South Gate home on Sept. 17, 2015.
Prosecutors also charged Knott, Alvarez, and a fourth person, Rebecca Ann Ustrell, with attempted murder. They are accused of being involved in an Oct. 18, 2015, shooting of a man at a Montebello convenience store.
All four pleaded not guilty to all charges and are set to return to court Sept. 28.
