Oscar Anaya, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Wednesday, Nov. 15, near Sherman Way and Kester Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4 p.m., Van Nuys gang officers in a marked patrol car began following a silver sedan with plates that had been reported lost or stolen, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A pursuit began, and soon after, police say Anaya fired shots at the patrol car.
Anaya crashed the sedan into a light pole near Sherman Way and Kester Avenue and then got out of the vehicle and began shooting at officers again, causing police to fire back, according to the news release.
Anaya was pronounced dead at a hospital at 4:36 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
