Donald Douglas Lee MacFarlane, a 53-year-old white man, was shot and killed by police officers Wednesday, March 7, at Ocean Boulevard and Chestnut Place in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Long Beach Police were called to a home near Long Beach Boulevard and 4th Street around 3:55 p.m. regarding a “hysterical female” who said her husband had a gun and was threatening to blow up the Glenn M. Anderson Federal Building with explosives in his white Chevrolet van, according to a department news release.
Officers spotted a white van nearby in the 300 block of West Ocean Boulevard. The driver, a white man later identified as MacFarlane, got out holding what appeared to be a handgun and stood with his arms outstretched, according to photos published by the Press-Telegram.

Orbel Nazarians, a 22-year-old white man, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police on Monday, Feb. 26, in the 9000 block of Kester Avenue in Panorama City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Officers from LAPD’s Mission Division responded at 8:45 a.m. to a call about a man with a knife who wanted to kill himself, according to a news release from the department.
When officers arrived, they saw Nazarians, who exited a home with an “edged weapon,” said Officer Norma Eisenman, a spokeswoman for the LAPD.
Police tried to subdue Nazarians with a Taser and a bean-bag shotgun, but ultimately fatally shot the man, Eisenman said.
Nazarians was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:08 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Santos Eris Nunez-Garcia, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police officers on Sunday, Feb. 25, in the 2100 block of West Century Boulevard in Gramercy Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 7:30 a.m., officers assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Division responded to a call about a burglar alarm at a marijuana dispensary in a strip mall, authorities said.
Police arrived at the strip mall, which includes a Domino’s Pizza and the dispensary, and confronted Nunez-Garcia, said Officer Mike Lopez, an LAPD spokesman.
Officers tried to persuade Nunez-Garcia to surrender, but he “produced a handgun and pointed it at the officers,” according to a news release from the department.
At least one officer opened fire, killing Nunez-Garcia, Lopez said.
A loaded .38-caliber revolver was recovered at the scene, police said.

Anthony Jacob “AJ” Weber, a 16-year-old black male, was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday, Feb. 4, in the 1200 block of West 107th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8 p.m., two deputies responded to a report of a young man in blue jeans and a black shirt pointing a handgun at a driver in the area. The caller, according to audio of the dispatch call, said he feared for his life.
While on foot, deputies encountered a 16-year-old boy who matched the description. They spotted a handgun tucked into his pants, according to statements by the Sheriff's Department.
When they ordered him not to move, the teen ignored the deputies' commands and took off running into an apartment complex known as a gang hangout, Sheriff's Capt. Chris Bergner has said previously said.
Primitivo Macias-Rodriguez, a 46-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Monday, Jan. 8, in the 200 block of East Florence Avenue in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Metropolitan Division officers in an unmarked police car began following Macias-Rodriguez, who they said was driving erratically, according to LAPD Det. Meghan Aguilar.
The driver crashed into two cars and a light pole, police said. Aguilar said she did not know if officers had initiated a traffic stop.
Days after the shooting, Chief Charlie Beck said that Macias-Rodriguez pulled out a gun, "pushed his upper body out of the vehicle," and pointed the gun at the officers, prompting police to shoot.

Frank Dario Lopez, a 48-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy on Sunday, Dec. 10, in the 11900 block of Droxford Street in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the residential neighborhood shortly after 9 p.m. regarding a man in an SUV looking into parked vehicles, said Lt. Joe Mendoza. Callers said the man was driving erratically and was parking his car on the lawn of a house.
The man eventually parked his car in a vacant lot and walked into the neighborhood, Mendoza said. A deputy searching for the suspicious person found Lopez hiding behind trash cans between two houses, he said.

Christian Chavez Avelar, a 40-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police on Monday, Nov. 27, in the 2700 block of Illinois Avenue in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
The previous day, Avelar hit his live-in girlfriend with a handgun and ran away, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza said.
The assault sent his girlfriend to the hospital, Mendoza said, and South Gate Police officers got a warrant for Avelar’s arrest. The following evening, the girlfriend returned home and called police, saying she thought Avelar was in the area.
Officers spotted Avelar sitting inside his parked truck around 7:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Illinois Avenue, a few blocks from his home, Mendoza said.
