A story for every victim

Deon Michael Bastian, 22

Deon Bastian, a 22-year-old black man, was fatally shot Saturday, Aug. 20, in the 8100 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue in Sun Valley, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a shooting call about 1:35 a.m. and found Bastian in a backyard with a gunshot wound to the head, according to an LAPD news release. Paramedics were called, and Bastian was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Soon after, a second male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest was discovered. He was taken to Kaiser Panorama City Medical Center where he died. The person has since been identified as Wilson Pierre, a 22-year-old black man.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Bastian and Pierre were shot after a fight at a party. The shooter was described as a black male.

Additionally, police said a Sony high-definition hand-held camcorder was removed from the party. It may contain evidence that could be crucial in identifying the shooter, officials said.

The incident is believed to be gang-related.

Anyone with information about the identity of the shooter(s) or the location of the camera is asked to contact North Hollywood Homicide Dets. Townsend and O’Donnell at (818) 623-4075. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
