A story for every victim

Francisco Martinez, 62 [Update]

Francisco Martinez, a 62-year-old Latino, died from blunt force trauma Tuesday, June 7, in the 13200 block of North Bradley Avenue in Sylmar, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Martinez's sons were in a dispute that night when one got into a car and drove at the other, police said.

“Somehow he hits both the brother and the father,” LAPD Officer Lyle Knight said.

Francisco Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene and his injured son was taken to a hospital with fractures to both of his legs.

The driver was later identified as Martin Martinez, a 26-year-old Latino. Two days after the incident, he was charged with murder and attempted murder.

If convicted, Martin Martinez faces 28 years to life in prison, said Deputy Dist. Atty. June Chung of the Family Violence Division.

He is being held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility downtown. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 29 in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
