Jacqueline Mendez, 27

 Jacqueline Mendez, a 27-year-old Latina, was stabbed to death Thursday, May 5, in the 1000 block of East Avenue Q-12 in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The incident occurred shortly after 12.30 a.m., according to a Sheriff's Department spokesman.

Mendez was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. Another injured male was taken to a hospital. The severity of his injuries was initially unknown.

During the investigation, detectives learned the injured man was the victim’s husband. He has since been identified as Joel Juarez Meza, a 27-year-old Latino.

According to a sheriff's department news release, Meza revealed he killed his wife, and then stabbed himself in an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

Meza is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown in lieu of $1.05-million bail.
