John Ray Carter, 24

John Ray Carter, a 24-year-old black man, was stabbed to death Wednesday, July 8, in the 2300 block of West 54th Street in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 1:15 a.m., Carter and another man got into an argument in a common living area in the apartment complex when the man stabbed Carter, LAPD Det. Dave Garrido said.

Carter was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:35 a.m.

Zachary Eugene Williams, a 58-year-old black man, was arrested July 13 on suspicion of murder.

Williams was charged two days later with one count of murder with the special allegation of the use of a deadly weapon, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Williams is being held in lieu of $1-million bail.
