A story for every victim

Jorge Ortega Gonzalez, 35

Jorge Ortega Gonzalez, a 35-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Thursday, June 15, in the 300 block of Griswold Avenue in San Fernando, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Gonzalez lived alone in a one-room building behind an apartment complex, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.

When some family members came to visit him around 7:30 p.m., they found him inside his home bleeding and unresponsive and called 911, Mendoza said.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 p.m., according to coroner’s records, which listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators are searching for information about who shot Gonzalez and why. Nothing appeared to be missing from his home, Mendoza said, so investigators don’t believe it was a robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
