Joseph Andrew Quijada Loya Jr., 35

Joseph Andrew Quijada Loya Jr., a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, July 5, in the 14000 block of Fox Street near the border between San Fernando and Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 1:45 a.m., patrol officers from the LAPD’s Mission Division responded to a call of a shooting. When they arrived, they learned that Loya's family members had taken him to a hospital, according to a news release from the department.

Loya was pronounced dead at a hospital at 1:48 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Police believe Loya was “loitering in the street” when a black or dark-colored sedan drove by slowly, east on Fox street, according to the release.

A second vehicle driving the same direction pulled in diagonally, blocking Loya from running west, police said. Police did not release a description of the second vehicle.

A person from the dark vehicle got out of the back seat and shot Loya multiple times, according to the news release. Both cars then fled the scene, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD Det. John Doerbecker at (818) 374-1941. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
