Joshua Williams, 24

Joshua Williams, a 24-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday, June 14, in the 7900 block of South Van Ness Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 5:36 p.m., officers from the Inglewood Police Department responded to a call of a shooting victim and found Williams in the street with “at least one gunshot wound,” according  to a news release from the department.

Williams was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m., according to coroner’s records. Police said they will not yet release further information about the incident.

Williams attended Oregon State University in 2011 and 2012 and was on the football team, according to the school. Williams transferred to Kentucky State University and played football there in 2014 and 2015, said Diane Hawkins, the director of communications for the university.

Williams was due to return to the school in August for his final season, Hawkins said.
