A story for every victim

Terrill Marquis Thomas, 20

Terrill Thomas, a 20-year-old black man, was fatally shot Saturday, June 2, in the 700 block of East Columbia Avenue in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting happened about 10:50 p.m. at a triplex, a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. Pomona police arrived to find two men fatally shot and a third injured nearby, officials said.

Thomas and Laderrick Rogers, a-20-year-old black man, were declared dead at the scene, said Lt. Cheryl MacWillie with the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

KTLA identified the third victim as Thomas' father, 40-year-old Vincent Dean, and said he was taken to L.A. County-USC Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Greg Estel, the owner of the triplex, said the victims were visiting a tenant in the building. He said he heard about the shootings Saturday night when he got a call from two law students living in another unit who said that a bullet had come through a window and landed in a box of cereal.

"It missed them by 6 inches," Estel said. "Then they look out the front door and saw a guy dead on the porch."

Police were also investigating a hit-and-run that occurred six minutes after the shooting and less than two miles away. The county dispatcher said the second incident, which was reported about 10:56 p.m. near Mission Boulevard and Park Avenue, sent at least one person to an area hospital.

Anyone with information about the killings is asked to contact Pomona Police homicide detectives at (909) 620-2095. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 .
