Timothy James, 44

Timothy James, a 44-year-old black man, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, minutes after he was shot in the 2100 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said James and a friend were sitting on a bench Feb. 28 about 11:57 p.m., when the friend got up and went into a building.

While inside, the friend heard a gunshot, Winter said. The friend came out and found James shot.

Authorities were called, and paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 12:10 a.m.

Winter said no suspects were in custody. He had no other information about the case.
